Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to fill out a FAFSA every year?
Yes. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid opens annually (historically on October 1st) for the next academic year (Fall, Spring and Summer). and may be completed online at StudentAid.gov. Students must reapply for financial aid each year.
What documentation do I need to bring to complete the FAFSA?
To complete the FAFSA, students should bring their Social Security number, a StudentAid.gov account, and access to required financial documents. Each contributor (student, parent, or spouse) must have their own login. Be prepared with 2024 tax returns and W-2s, records of untaxed income, bank account and investment information, and a list of up to 20 schools. Students will also need parent or contributor email addresses to send FAFSA invitations and must be able to give consent for the IRS Direct Data Exchange if available.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend.
